Do you know your keyboard shortcuts?

Keyboard shortcuts can literally be defined as the reduction of input sequence to a few keystrokes. i.e. using a few keystrokes to achieve the same result as that of a several mouse clicks. However, there is a more in depth meaning to this term.

What does a Keyboard Shortcut mean?

Generally, Keyboard shortcuts can be referred to as specific key combinations used to invoke one or more commands that trigger a particular functionality of the Operating System, Application program or of a functionality created by a User Scripting Language. If the keyboard shortcuts is not used, these functionalities would be accessible only through a menu, a pointing device, different levels of a user interface, or via a command-line interface. However, in Windows, such commands can also be triggered by the Hot keys. Hot keys are designated keys on the menu command or toolbar used in combination with the Alt-key. Although they are similar to the Keyboard shortcuts, the hot keys can not be used without the Alt-key. Also Keyboard shortcuts are different from other keyboard inputs because the shortcuts require pressing several keys simultaneously or one after the other. Although, there are some single key press that are dedicated for use as a shortcut e.g.the function key.
