Having acknowledged the existence of these challenges, it is paramount for us to know what to do when we are faced with them.
I have listed a few tips that would help you through the tide.
1. Donβt be hard on yourself: Be patient with yourself as you learn. The journey is not a day’s job. It is understandable that you may want to get all the ideas into your head at once but this is not realistic. Don’t get overwhelmed by your expectations as this will only wear you out. Have a well planned learning schedule and take it one step at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
2. Believe in yourself: Because you can’t do it now doesn’t mean you can never do it. Reminding yourself daily of how much you have learnt will go a long way in motivating yourself. Also, don’t forget to take on bigger projects. It will help you improve and expand your horizon.
“If you hear a word within you say, ‘you cannot paint’ then by all means paint and the voice will be silenced.” Vincent Van Gogh.
3. Consistency: Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.β β Henry Ford
When you take those baby steps consistently, you will soon realise you have started walking. Challenge yourself to learn something new everyday, don’t stay idle. You can find a work place to practice your skills or you can embark on personal projects. Another option is for you to work for free e.g. Volunteering on Github.
4. Donβt be a loner: Surround yourself with other learners. Attend training, seminars and workshops and stay up to date. There are several Data Science online communities and competitions you can participate in e.g. Kaggle competitions.
5. Stay motivated: You need a measure of enthusiasm to pursue your goals. This is what will keep you going and eventually help you in achieving your dreams. Always learn from your mistakes and move on to a greater feat.
